Bird Health and Wellness
What bird supplies do I need? This is the first question new bird parents ask themselves, and bird food and treats usually top the list, along with other essentials like a birdcage. But what’s the right diet for your bird? How can you ensure they’re getting balanced nutrition? And what about other health and wellness supplies, like mineral blocks and cuttlebones for birds?
Different sizes and species of birds require different bird food, so for example, cockatiel food and parrot food will contain different amounts of vitamins and minerals, carbohydrates, proteins and fat. And while you might put out wild bird food that’s exclusively seed, your pet bird supplies should include a variety of food, like vegetables and pellets.
Styptic powder for birds is another important supply to add to your kit. This powder helps to stop bleeding if you accidentally cut the quick while you’re trimming your bird’s nails. Other bird supplies you may want are mite and lice spray, vitamins and calcium supplements in the form of cuttlebone or mineral block. These blocks also provide entertainment and exercise for birds. Another way to provide an outlet is with nesting dispensers, which hook to the side of the cage and contain material they can use to build their own nest.
The bird supplies you’ll need will depend on the type of bird you have. Whether you have a tiny parakeet or a giant macaw, you should be able to find everything you need.
